MUSIC FOR BRASS AND PERCUSSION
Conductor’s score and all parts, scanned from the music used in rehearsal and performance. This BBC-commissioned suite consists of 11 movements total, written for 3 trumpets (or Flugel horns), three French horns, trombone, tuba, woodwind (clarinet, brass clarinet, flute, alto saxophone), percussion (marimba, glockenspiel, chimes, concert bass drum, etc.), piano, bass and drumset.
The players heard on the recording are: John Barclay (1st Trpt.), Richard Iles (2nd Trpt.), Kenny Wheeler (solo trumpet & flugelhorn); Pip Eastop , Richard Berry & Martin Owen, French horns; Liam Kirkman, trb; Owen Slade, tuba; Colin Currie, percussion; John Taylor, piano; Michael Formanek, bass; Peter Erskine, drums; and Marty Ehrlich, reeds.

Note: “When You Are Old” is dedicated to The Hilliard Ensemble, for whom I first wrote the piece at a workshop in Germany. The piece gets its title from the poem by Yeats.
